ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Memorial Art Gallery will host the 6th Annual Muslim-American Independence Day Address this Saturday, July 11, at 12:30 PM.
This year's gathering is being presented in the spirit of the renowned American intellect Frederick Douglass, utilizing his life and legacy as a framework to address contemporary challenges regarding conscience, justice, and liberty.
The event honors the long tradition of African-American Muslim leadership in the United States and its contributions to the broader struggle for human dignity and equality. Imam Earl Abdulmalik Mohammed will deliver the keynote address, continuing a line of leadership characterized by Elijah Muhammad and Imam W. Deen Mohammed.
Organizers state that the address serves as a public call to conscience, inviting citizens, faith communities, and civic leaders to reflect on the nation's moral responsibilities.
The event is free and open to the public. Community members looking to attend or secure reserved seating can RSVP by contacting Imam Hanif Abdulwahid of the Muslim American Ministry for Human Salvation at 585-474-0055, via email at Hanifabdulwahid@gmail.com, or by visiting MuslimAmericanMinistry.com.
