Body recovered from Genesee River identified as missing 14-year-old Zane Johnson

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Family members have confirmed the tragic conclusion to the search for 14-year-old Zane Johnson, announcing that the body recovered from the Genesee River near the Driving Park Bridge Friday evening was indeed his.


In a heartbreaking statement shared online, loved ones expressed the depth of their grief: "It is with broken hearts that we share that Zane has been found, and he has passed away. We are devastated beyond words and are asking for privacy as our family tries to process this unimaginable loss."


The family also expressed immense gratitude to the community members, volunteers, and first responders who dedicated their time, flew drones, and stood beside them during the grueling multi-day search. They have asked the community to continue keeping Zane’s mother and the rest of their family in their thoughts and prayers.


Official funeral arrangements are expected to be released soon.
