ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Rochester Police are investigating an overnight shooting that left a man dead outside a bar on Clifford Avenue.

The incident began around 1:25 AM Sunday morning when a ShotSpotter activation detected eight rounds fired near 2260 Clifford Ave. Upon arrival, RPD officers located a man who had been shot multiple times. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to investigators, a 31-year-old man was kicked out of the establishment earlier in the evening. RPD states that the man went to a vehicle, retrieved a handgun, and ran back toward the building.

As he reached the entrance, a security officer confronted him. Police say the man pointed the firearm at the security guard and opened the entrance door, at which point the security officer opened fire, striking him multiple times.

Clifford Avenue was closed down for several hours overnight while emergency responders, additional officers, and command staff processed the scene.

At this time, authorities state that no charges have been filed against the security guard.
