ROCHESTER, NY — A tragic weekend altercation on Rochester's west side has left a local bar cook dead and a newly released parolee facing second-degree murder charges.
According to the Rochester Police Department, officers rushed to "The Mafia Hub" on St. Paul Street at approximately 3:30 a.m. Saturday morning following reports of a stabbing. Upon arrival, responding units encountered a chaotic scene, discovering 33-year-old Kameron Nelson suffering from multiple stab wounds. Nelson was immediately rushed to a local hospital, where he tragically succumbed to his injuries.
GSL News has learned that the fatal encounter began inside the venue, where investigators say 23-year-old Alexavier Colon became involved in a heated argument with his girlfriend. The dispute carried outside the establishment, quickly escalating into a physical altercation.
Nelson, who worked as a cook at the bar, witnessed the fight and selflessly stepped in to intervene and protect the woman. It was during this attempt to help that Nelson was stabbed multiple times by Colon, according to police.
A swift investigation by RPD led officers to a residence on West Main Street on Saturday afternoon. Police executed a search warrant at the home, where Colon was successfully located and taken into custody without further incident. He has since been officially charged with second-degree murder.
GSL News criminal background checks reveal this is not Colon's first violent offense in the city. Records show he was previously arrested in December 2021 for shooting a man on Sullivan Street. He later pled guilty to criminal possession of a weapon and was sentenced in May 2023 to three years in state prison.
Alarmingly, Colon had just been released from prison last month and was supposed to be actively tracked via an electronic GPS monitoring system at the time of the fatal stabbing.
The investigation remains open. RPD is urging anyone with additional information, cell phone footage, or eyewitness accounts to contact the Major Crimes section at 585-428-7157, email MajorCrimes@cityofrochester.gov, or submit an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers at 585-423-9300.
