Contracted USPS Truck Spills Bulk Business Mail on I-390 Northbound

Commuters on I-390 Northbound faced an unusual delay early Monday morning when a massive spill of undeliverable bulk business mail scattered across the highway, creating what drivers described as a paper blizzard near the Scottsville Road exit.

The incident occurred during the peak of the morning rush hour when a contracted United States Postal Service transport vehicle suffered a cargo containment failure, causing its load to spill directly onto the active driving lanes. The widespread litter forced drivers to slow to a crawl, creating a miles-long traffic bottleneck that stretched south into Henrietta as motorists navigated through the airborne sheets and debris.

Officials from the United States Postal Service quickly issued a statement clarifying the origin of the material, confirming that the truck was transporting undeliverable marketing materials and bulk circulars intended strictly for destruction and recycling. Authorities reassured the public that no personal packages, certified correspondence, or private standard letters were involved or compromised in the spill.

New York State Department of Transportation maintenance crews were dispatched to the expressway alongside municipal street sweepers to clear the lanes. Workers spent several hours collecting the scattered paper and clearing the shoulders to restore normal traffic flow. State Police confirmed that while the unexpected obstruction caused severe logistical headaches for morning commuters, no vehicular accidents or injuries were reported as a result of the spill.
