ROCHESTER, N.Y. — A massive law enforcement response is currently active on Rochester's southwest side following a violent daytime shooting that has left two people injured, with one victim fighting for his life.

At approximately 5:30 PM, the Rochester Police Department, alongside multiple surrounding law enforcement agencies, rushed to the 800 block of Genesee Street near Monica Street after receiving urgent reports of a barrage of gunfire and someone struck.

First responders flooded the neighborhood, immediately cordoning off multiple blocks to secure the area and establish a crime scene. Upon arrival, officers discovered two people suffering from gunshot wounds.

Both victims were quickly treated at the scene and transported by AMR to Strong Memorial Hospital. According to police, a 27-year-old man from Rochester suffered life-threatening injuries and remains in critical condition. A 26-year-old woman, also from Rochester, sustained injuries that are not considered life-threatening.

Yellow crime scene tape blocks off a significant portion of Genesee Street as evidence technicians and investigators interview witnesses and search the pavement for ballistic evidence. The heavy police presence is expected to impact traffic and remain in the area for several hours.

No information regarding potential suspects or a motive has been made available by officials, and no arrests have been announced.

This is an active, rapidly developing investigation. GSL News is on the scene and will continue to provide updates as new details emerge.
