Multiple physical altercations broke out among attendees during the final afternoon of the 128th Annual Rochester Lilac Festival, disrupting the closing hours of the historic ten-day community event at Highland Park.
The disturbances began mid-afternoon Sunday near the main festival corridor, prompting an immediate and coordinated intervention from law enforcement personnel and private security teams stationed inside the park. Responding officers moved quickly into the crowds to isolate the disturbances, actively ejecting dozens of primary agitators from the festival perimeter to prevent further escalation. Law enforcement officials confirmed that multiple individuals were detained at the scene for disorderly conduct and dynamic non-compliance.
The unexpected altercations forced festival management and local authorities to temporarily close entry gates early on Sunday evening to manage crowd density and restore order. While the disruptions created brief moments of panic and triggered heavy foot traffic bottlenecks near the South Avenue exits, security teams successfully dispersed the remaining crowds. Officials reported that no severe injuries were sustained by festival-goers or responding personnel during the incidents, and the park grounds were cleared shortly after the early closure.
