On Monday night the Rochester Police Department responded to Seventh Street for a ShotSpotter notification.  As officers arrived on scene, they noticed a truck with no headlights on.  As officers attempted to stop the driver of the truck, the driver fled from them and led officers on a chase.  The driver lost control of the vehicle and struck a pole on First Street near Hempel Street.

After crashing his vehicle, the driver then ran on foot down First Street and into a backyard.  As officers attempted to take the male suspect into custody a struggle ensued.  During the struggle the male suspect was shot in the upper body.  A Rochester Police Sergeant on scene began life-saving medical treatment.

The male suspect, who is 26-years-old was transported to Strong Hospital where he is expected to survive.

The officer was also taken to a local hospital where he was treated for injuries to his upper body.  The officer has since been released from the hospital.

The Rochester Police Department did locate a handgun along with a large amounts of narcotics.  A gun was also located in the vehicle the suspected was driving.
