Downtown’s Parcel 5 was transformed into a sea of vibrant orange as the local community organization Roc Royal partnered with the City of Rochester to host a massive public awareness event dedicated to gun violence prevention and neighborhood peace.
The outdoor gathering, which ran from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, served as a centralized hub for local advocacy groups, community stakeholders, and families looking to challenge the rise of street violence. To support area residents, organizers packed the expansive open-air venue with critical community resources, providing direct on-site access to specialized youth outreach programs, regional job training initiatives, and neighborhood-led safety teams designed to intervene in local conflicts.
Rochester Mayor Malik Evans attended the demonstration, spending the afternoon walking the grounds to speak directly with residents and reinforce the administration's ongoing public safety initiatives. Addressing the gathered crowd, Mayor Evans emphasized the urgent need for collective community action and strict accountability to curb neighborhood violence, stating plainly that "one person killed is one too many."
The "Orange Out" initiative aligned with nationwide efforts to honor victims of firearm crimes and raise awareness for structural safety solutions. Representatives from Roc Royal and municipal leaders concluded the event by urging families to utilize the provided structural resources, noting that sustained economic opportunity and proactive mentorship remain the city's most effective tools for fostering long-term peace across Rochester neighborhoods.
