A 54-year-old Rochester man has died after being struck by a vehicle while attempting to cross a busy northeast quadrant thoroughfare on Friday afternoon.

The fatal collision occurred at approximately 2:53 PM in the 1300 block of Culver Road, near the intersection of Vermont Street. Emergency crews and Rochester Police patrol units rushed to the scene following reports of a pedestrian down in the roadway. First responders located the male victim, later identified by authorities as Anthony Thompson, suffering from severe internal trauma. Paramedics performed emergency life-saving measures at the scene before rushing Thompson to Strong Memorial Hospital, where he was subsequently pronounced dead by medical personnel.

The operator of the striking vehicle remained at the scene immediately following the impact and cooperated fully with responding officers. RPD investigators completed preliminary field sobriety evaluations and confirmed that neither drugs nor alcohol appear to be contributing factors in the collision.

A heavy law enforcement presence closed down a multi-block section of Culver Road for several hours, stringing police tape across the intersection and diverting commuter traffic away from the scene while the RPD Scuba and Collision Reconstruction Unit meticulously documented the roadway conditions and mapped out the vehicle's trajectory. Authorities have not filed any criminal charges or issued traffic citations to the driver at this stage, noting that the investigation into the exact circumstances of the crash remains highly active.
