People’s Choice Kitchen hosted its fifth annual community bike giveaway at 575 Brooks Avenue, partnering with regional businesses, community organizations, and local leaders to distribute dozens of bicycles to neighborhood youth and families.
The annual giveaway represents a long-standing tradition for the Jamaican and soul food restaurant, aimed at promoting physical activity, fostering independence, and providing outdoor recreation opportunities for local children. Monroe County Traffic Safety representatives joined the event to ensure every recipient received a properly fitted bicycle helmet alongside safety education resources.
The community initiative follows the establishment's recent 25th anniversary milestone in the Flower City. Founded by Evangelista "Van" Stanley and her late husband Mark, the restaurant has served as a central gathering hub and anchor in the southwest Rochester neighborhood for a quarter-century. Over the past two and a half decades, the independent business has sustained a reputation for community advocacy through regular charitable programming, including holiday toy drives, food distribution events, and specialized outreach initiatives.
