Rochester Police have established a tactical perimeter and are currently surrounding a residence in the 1200 block of North Goodman Street following a stabbing incident early Sunday evening.
Officers responded to the intersection of North Goodman Street and Springfield Avenue just before 5:50 PM following emergency calls regarding a person stabbed. Upon arrival, emergency personnel located a 68-year-old male victim suffering from a stab wound to his lower body. The injured man was treated at the scene by American Medical Response personnel before being transported to Strong Memorial Hospital. Officials confirm his injuries are not considered life-threatening.
Following the assault, responding units determined the suspect had fled into a nearby residential structure on the block. Police quickly locked down the immediate area, blocking traffic and instructing neighbors to remain indoors as a standoff developed with the barricaded individual.
A 29-year-old male suspect was subsequently taken into custody without further incident after specialized units secured the home. The Rochester Police Department is urging motorists and the public to completely avoid North Goodman Street between Clifford Avenue and Norton Street while tactical units clear the scene and investigators process the area.
