Small Plane Makes Miraculous Emergency Landing on Busy Gainesville Roadway

A routine flight turned into a scene of survival when a single-engine plane was forced to make an emergency landing on a heavily trafficked road, colliding with several vehicles before coming to a stop in front of local businesses.

The aircraft, a single-engine Hawker Beechcraft, experienced engine failure shortly after taking off from Lee Gilmer Memorial Airport. Realizing they lacked the power to glide back to the runway, the pilots executed an emergency landing directly on Browns Bridge Road during the midday traffic rush.

During the landing, the aircraft struck three vehicles and dislodged a fuel tank into the back of an SUV. Miraculously, despite the plane coming down near power lines and among hundreds of cars, local authorities confirmed that no fatalities or serious injuries occurred. Two individuals were transported to a local medical center with minor injuries. The National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration are conducting an investigation into the cause of the engine failure.
