One dead, multiple injured after medical transport bus collides with dump truck in Hopewell

HOPEWELL, N.Y. — One person was killed and several others were hospitalized following a serious two-vehicle crash involving a medical transport bus and a 10-wheel dump truck at the intersection of State Route 488 and Freshour Road early Wednesday afternoon.
According to Ontario County Sheriff David Cirencione, the collision occurred at approximately 1:49 PM when the medical transport bus, traveling northbound on Freshour Road, entered the intersection into the path of the eastbound dump truck. The truck struck the driver-side passenger area of the bus.
An officer was in the immediate area when the crash occurred and quickly responded alongside emergency crews.
Sheriff officials confirmed the transport bus was carrying six passengers at the time of the crash:
* One passenger was pronounced dead at the scene.
* Three passengers suffered serious injuries and were airlifted from the site by medical helicopters to Strong Memorial Hospital.
* A fourth passenger with serious injuries was transported to Strong Memorial Hospital via ground ambulance.
* A fifth passenger and the bus driver sustained apparent minor injuries and were taken to local hospitals for evaluation.
* The driver of the dump truck was not injured and remained on scene to cooperate fully with investigators.
Emergency responders and reconstruction teams closed the intersection of Route 488 and Freshour Road to conduct a full investigation into the crash.
