Rochester firefighters extinguish afternoon blaze at St. Paul and Saranac Streets

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Rochester Fire Department personnel responded to reports of a structure fire at the intersection of St. Paul Street and Saranac Street at approximately 2:20 PM today.

First-arriving fire companies encountered active flames visible at the bottom level of the residential structure, along with heavy smoke billowing from the attic area.

Fire crews stretched hose lines and initiated an aggressive attack on the flames while ladder teams opened up the roof structure to vent smoke trapped within the attic. Fire officials confirmed that the house is vacant and search teams reported no injuries to civilians or firefighters.

The fire was quickly brought under control, preventing structural extension to nearby properties.

Fire investigators were called to the scene to examine the origin and determine what started the blaze.
