Serious smoke condition and fire from freezer malfunction sparks response on East Main Street

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Rochester Fire Department crews responded to a serious structure fire call at a corner store near the intersection of East Main Street and Sydney Street at approximately 11:20 AM today.
Upon arrival, firefighters were met with heavy smoke and an active fire that originated from a freezer malfunction inside the business.
Crews engaged the scene directly to knock down the fire, control the flames, and clear the heavy smoke that filled the building.
Occupants evacuated the building safely, and officials confirmed that no injuries were reported during the emergency response.
