Vacant Wyndham Hotel targeted in break-ins and vandalism following city closure order

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The vacant Wyndham Rochester Downtown hotel on State Street has become the target of repeated break-ins and extensive property destruction following its forced shutdown by city officials.

Rochester Police officers and City of Rochester code enforcement officials were seen entering the property after recent intrusions left the building heavily damaged.

Video captured at the scene shows severe structural damage throughout the property, including smashed upper-story windows, kicked-in entry doors, interior graffiti, and thousands of dollars in destroyed equipment and fixtures.

The State Street hotel was forced to cease all operations and evacuate guests after the City of Rochester revoked its certificate of occupancy due to 23 unresolved building and fire code violations.

Since the order to vacate was issued, the empty complex has drawn trespassers, prompting an increased police presence to secure the perimeter and prevent further vandalism.
